After shifting to a new home, I finally had the opportunity to play around with the look and feel of the house. I chose to start with the empty living room. It was spacious, well-built and had plenty of natural light from the main windows. So we had a good start.
I had a series of discussions with my family to understand the space's needs, preferences, tastes, and functional aspects.
Budget & the timeline: We determined the budget constraints as well as the timeline.
Space Assessment: To get a better idea, I started by noting down the Dimensions using a measuring tape, the locations of Doors and Windows and other critical structural elements.
Light Analysis: Evaluated the natural light sources to determine the placement of lighting and choice of colours.
Style Inspiration: I observed the home's architectural style to ensure the interior complements it.
Mood Boards: Unlike a traditional way to design the mood board itself, I chose to save some time and used Pinterest to establish a visual direction and style for the space.
Colour Scheme: I selected Pallete to reflect the desired mood and compliment the natural light.
Furniture Layout: I did some quick drawings to find the preliminary layout to optimise the flow and functionality.
Detailed Floor Plan: I used an online platform called Home Styler to create a detailed floor plan of the house quickly.
3D Modeling: I modelled the entire living room in Blender with the exact style of walls, fall ceilings, windows, Floor and a few of the lights installed.
Furniture, Material and Style: I created a few options for the kind of Sofa sets we wanted along with the dining table, Art Pieces, Plants, Lighting, and decorative pieces right on Blender to get the exact Idea for size and material Selection.
Since I was my client for this project, I saved myself from making presentations and seeking approvals. Although I kept my family informed about any changes by sharing with them the final render images of the space.
Furniture: We decided to get the Sofa Sets, dining table, TV cabinet, and Chest Cabinet customised according to the space and the design we had finalised in the renders. For that, we had to get it done by the carpenters at the furniture market. I explained the structure and functions to them and handed them over photos and dimensions of the designs.
Electric Appliances: The wiring for installing the appliances was already well-planned, so we just had to get the devices. We started with the TV; getting it of the right size was significant based on the distance it was supposed to be viewed right from the sitting area. Airconditioners were already installed, so we didn't have to work on that.
Lights: We decided to install a few additional lights in the living room to ensure the desired ambience & functionality. We installed one Chandelier in the middle of the hall. And two Ceiling lamps hanging right above the Dining Area.
Statement Art: I made a painting to hang on the adjacent wall with the Sofa facing the television. The Painting is 4 feet wide to ensure it looks majestic and compliments the entire interior.
Plants: Adding the plants was the best and the most favourite part. We ensured that from any angle or a sitting point, one can get a perfectly balanced landscape of plants and furniture.
Accessories: I tried my best not to overcrowd the space with a lot of accessories. We only chose to keep a few of the Sculptures I had made during my Graduation from Art College, along with a clock right above the Chest Cabinet.
Being an in-house Project, there is no handing over of the final product, but we can experiment with the place. And gradually, we might expand the theme and design of this space to other parts of the house.
